An Austin Gipsy in France

In the beautiful south of France, not far from NĂ®mes, Philippe has owned this Austin Gipsy and driven it on his private land for quite a few years now.  A while ago he wrote to us:" The car is of course quite a bit rusty....(1960 !), the engine is running well, the broken petrol tank has been replaced by a glass fiber one, I still use it at least one day every week with satisfaction...but some work has to be done to make it more reliable...!! as I said, because of my great age (70 next week....!)  a restoration program is no consideration, so I decided to give it to a younger  fan of Gipsy...!"

To us this gipsy doesn't look too rusty at all to be rescued and we're happy to tell you that a new owner has now taken over this car.

Austin Gipsy: values going up?

In one European classic car magazine you could read an article stating that the values of Austin Gipsies are rising. This is quite a bold statement in a time when the classic car market is rather slow due to a crisis. It is true though that one or two pristine low mileage Gipsies have been sold for good money, but those vehicles were very special vehicles in very good condition. Your average working Austin Gipsy will still not sell quickly or command a high price.
I think that is alright though, as it seems that most Gipsies on the road are cherished by their owners and not bought and sold for investment. If you finally do need to sell your Gipsy it is more likely you will be looking for a good custodian for your pride and joy in stead of a profit.
Gipsies make a great hobby vehicle for the true enthusiast. They don't want speculators, they want to go out and play!
